SPECIAL TOWN MEETING OF ELECTORS
Town Hall December 1, 2014
Present: 44 7:00 PM
The Special Town Meeting of Electors was called to order by Chairman Mike Endries. Present
Chairman Mike Endries, Supervisors Fritz Anhalt and Ken Lefeber.
The Special Town meeting was published in The Reporter on Nov. 16 and posted at the town hall, fire
House, and National Exchange Bank.
The purpose of the meeting was to adopt the 2014 Town of Calumet tax rate payable in 2015 pursuant to Sec. 60.10(1)(a) of Wis. Statutes. The meeting was also to vote on a proposed increase in the Town of
Calumet levy as presented in Resolution 1-2014 in the amount of $31,674, for a total tax levy of
Motion Bob Schumacher, seconded Neil Groeschel to authorize the town board to select an assessor by appointment, effective at the expiration of the term of the current elected assessor. A no vote is to stay with the elected assessor and a yes vote is to go with an appointed assessor. The vote was as follows:
No – 28, Yes – 16. The town will have an elected assessor. The motion was defeated.
Motion Neil Groeschel, seconded Bob Schumacher to reduce the assessor salary to $8,000 per year.
A yes vote was to reduce the salary to $8,000 per year, and a no vote was to keep the assessor salary the same. The vote was as follows: No – 25, Yes – 19. The salary will remain the same at $10,000 per year. The motion was defeated.
Motion Jodie Goebel, seconded Sandy Breth to lower the chairman’s salary from $10,000 to $7,000 per year and the supervisors from $4,500 to $2,500 per year. A yes vote would change the salary and a no vote would remain the same. The vote was as follows: Yes – 18, No – 26. The salaries will remain the same at $10,000 per year for the chairman, and $4,500 for the supervisors. The motion was defeated.
The chairman asked three times if there was any more discussion on the salaries. As there was not any more discussion the next agenda item was discussed.
Motion Neil Groeschel, seconded Bob Schumacher to increase the town mill rate by 18 cents to $2.00 and put in the equipment fund. A no vote would leave the mill rate the same at $1.82 and a yes vote would increase the mill rate to $2.00. The votes were as follows: No – 35 , Yes – 7. The mill rate will remain the same at $1.82. The motion was defeated.
Motion Linda Baxter, seconded Jodie Goebel to leave the mill rate at $1.82. Hand vote was 34 yes and 10 no. Motion carried.
Motion Bruce Peterson, seconded Maggie Lefeber to adjourn the special meeting of electors.
